Just hours before the Armistice was declared on 11 November 1918, the Canadians captured the Belgian city of Mons. The Canadian soldiers were greeted as liberators by the people of Mons, who organized ceremonies and parades to celebrate the end of more than four years of German occupation.
In 2018, Canadians again participated in a parade in Mons, marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
