The Canadian War Museum presents a thought-provoking film that is a meditation on the human cost of war, expressed through spoken word and music.
The film features nearly a dozen well-known Ukrainian musicians, visual artists, writers, and activists. With voice-overs and arresting still images, they share their reflections on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Guest speakers for this special event include Dr. Michael Petrou of the Canadian War Museum, Ukrainian musician-activist Olena Kossak (via Zoom), and filmmaker Darcy Ataman, who is himself an artist, as well as the founder and CEO of Make Music Matter. There will also be a special musical performance by Colin and John-Angus MacDonald of The Trews.
As Ataman has said, in times of war, art and music are often the things we hold on to. This evening explores not only the impact of conflict on everyday life, but also how artists can continue to inspire in the midst of war.
Tickets: $10 + tax for adults and seniors
Members: Free! Registration required.
The lectures will be given in English, with simultaneous interpretation in French, and will be recorded.
