You Can Run If You Vote
Any person who is qualified to vote (any Canadian citizen at least 18 years old) is also qualified to run for election. To become a candidate in a federal election, one must file nomination papers with the returning officer of the electoral district where he or she is seeking election. Nomination papers can be filed only after an election is called and before the 21st day before election day. A candidate may be endorsed by a registered political party, in which case the name of the party appears with the candidate’s name on the ballot. A candidate may also choose to run independently of any political party.
