Balancing the Scales: Canada's East Coast Fisheries

Balancing the Scales:
Canada's East Coast Fisheries

Balancing the Scales hopes to foster an understanding of the importance of the fisheries to Atlantic Canada and to the rest of the country. It deals with the material life of fishers, including their domestic possessions as well as fishing implements. It links different time periods, ethnic communities, fisheries, modes of life and uses of technology. The precarious balance between the needs of fishing societies and of the resource stocks - the community of fishers and the community of fish - is demonstrated. Balancing the Scales explores the history of Canada's East Coast fisheries to help make contemporary events meaningful.
