Marx play sets were extremely popular with children in the 1950s and 1960s. The Super Circus dates from 1952 and includes a metal lithographed "Big Top" with flags, poles, midway platforms and signs. Flexible plastic figures of clowns, jugglers, bareback riders, trapeze artists, lion tamers, strong men, sword-swallowers and barkers, as well as performing circus animals, an assortment of wild animals, vendors and families of visitors, provided hours of entertainment to children as they created their own circus layout.
