Around the middle of the nineteenth century, creamware ceased to be the predominant type of crockery owned by the middle class. Nonetheless, the major Staffordshire ceramics factories continued to produce such items, and to make them increasingly decorative. An example is this teapot, with its Japanese-influenced painted decoration.
