Painted by Thomas (Tom) Wood in 1945Maritime industries, including naval shipbuilding, helped make Saint John one of Canada's leading cities.
It remained a supply, manufacturing, and repair facility through most of the twentieth century, constructing nine of the navy's twelve modern Halifax-class patrol frigates in the 1990s. In this 1945 painting of ships in drydock, the vessel marked K456 is HMCS Saint John.
