HMCS Chambly Model

This model of the Flower class corvette HMCS Chambly after a 1944 refit shows a typical corvette after its late-war upgrades and modifications have been completed.

The modernizations include Type 271 radar in a lantern-shaped housing behind the bridge (centre right), a Hedgehog anti-submarine mortar (to the left of the forward gun), and an extended forecastle (running from the right to the middle) which improved living and working conditions. Administrative indecision and confusion, coupled with a shortage of shipyard facilities and equipment, delayed such upgrades to most Canadian corvettes in comparison with their counterparts in Britain's Royal Navy.
