This decorated helmet belonged to Petty Officer G.G.M. Guthrie, who served in the Tribal-class destroyer HMCS Huron.
Prominently marked with Huron's name in a black maple leaf on a red background, this helmet testifies to the wearer's attachment to a Canadian ship. In the wartime Royal Canadian Navy, some helmets were given insignia to indicate the wearer's rank and function in a ship's company, but other markings - like those on this helmet - were less a matter of function and more a matter of personal preference.
