Paramax Electronics Incorporated, one of the prime contractors for the Canadian Patrol Frigate (CPF) project, commissioned this model of HMCS Halifax.
Made while the frigates were still being planned and developed, the model differs from the ships as they finally appeared. Paramax, a Montreal-based subsidiary of Sperry (later Unisys) Corporation, received a $1.25 billion contract for electronics and other equipment for the CPF project. In the summer of 1988, the Canadian government expelled eight Soviet diplomats, some of whom had been involved in an effort to infiltrate Paramax Electronics to obtain information about equipment destined for the CPFs.
