In the lead up to Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8, the Canadian War Museum is proud to host a live interview with Maria Trujillo, program coordinator at the Last Post Fund, and Stephen McGregor, a member of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation and researcher with the Last Post Fund.
Trujillo and McGregor will share stories about their work with the Last Post Fund’s Indigenous Veterans Initiative (IVI). The IVI provides grave markers for Indigenous veterans who died more than five years ago and lie in unmarked graves. The initiative also adds the traditional names of Indigenous veterans to existing military grave markers.
We will also be viewing the short documentary, The Indigenous Veterans Initiative – Finding Unmarked Graves.
This virtual event will be hosted by Danielle Teillet, Historian, Indigenous Military History at the Canadian War Museum. The interview will be followed by a short audience Q & A.
This 60-minute event is suitable for teachers, students, and the general public.
In English with simultaneous interpretation in French.
Virtual event. Participation is free, but registration is required. Register here!
