This British flying services training poster instructs pilots in the art of "pancaking." Pilots would deliberately stall their aircraft a few feet above the ground, allowing the plane to drop. This was used to land on rough ground where an ordinary landing might cause the plane to flip. The illustration warns pilots of stalling too high above the ground, which would result in a crash landing.
