This white, wooden cross originally marked the graves of several officers from the 16th Battalion killed in action on 2 September 1918 attacking the Drocourt-Queant Line. They may have been buried in a mass grave. The officers were Lieutenant M.J. Watson, Lieutenant C.G. Birns, Lieutenant D.C. Campbell Johnson, Lieutenant E. Drummond Hay, Lieutenant J. Elliot, and Lieutenant P.D. Falconer Stewart.
