Although not an official publication, this small book provides insight into the traditions and social norms under which officers were expected to serve in the early twentieth century British and Canadian army. The majority of officers in the First Contingent were Canadian and, while many had Militia experience, others needed extensive guidance in how to lead and train the soldiers under their command.
