On the left is the order to report for duty, a form that would have been sent to a conscripted man. On the right is the certificate which would have been issued to a successful applicant for exemption. Approximately half of the men registered under the Military Service Act were granted exemptions, mostly for occupational reasons, including agricultural or other essential work.
