This recruiting leaflet for the 176th Battalion attempted to shame young men into enlisting. The patronizing message invited potential recruits to come and "talk it over" before conscription was enacted and they would be forever branded by the stigma. Recruits were further plied with the promise of good clothes and the chance to demonstrate their "manhood." Men who had not enlisted faced an onslaught of pressure from various sources, including posters, newspaper editorials, political speeches, and church sermons.
