This banner was awarded on 10 June 1917 to the 46th Canadian Infantry Battalion. "Somewhere in France" was a common phrase among soldiers who often used it in their letters home to avoid trouble with the censors. Sporting events provided soldiers with an outlet to relieve the stress of war and the monotony of soldiering.
