The Port Arthur Shipbuilding Company built this sectional model of a standard wooden steamer cargo ship for the Imperial Munitions Board. Early in 1917, the British Ministry of Shipping, through the Imperial Munitions Board, began contracting the construction of merchant ships in Canada to help replace those lost to German U-Boat attacks. In all, 42 steel- and 26 wooden-hulled vessels were completed.
