Medal set awarded to Corporal Samuel Greenham of the 75th Canadian Infantry Battalion. The Distinguished Conduct Medal (left) was the second highest award for gallantry (after the Victoria Cross), awarded to non-commissioned officers and soldiers for acts of distinguished conduct in the field. The other medals pictured are the British War Medal 1914-1920 (centre) and the Victory Medal 1914-1919 (right). Greenham's citation for the DCM states: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on September 2nd, 1918, east of the Queant-Drocourt line. He carried messages through intense machine-gun fire to and from the advanced platoons. When the objective was rushed he went forward and helped to clear a portion of the adjacent trench. It was owing to his splendid devotion to duty that his company commander was able to move his platoons to their best advantage."
