Medal set of Sapper Harold Hawkin, including, from left to right, the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal 1914-1920 and the Victory Medal 1914-1919. Hawkin, a bricklayer by trade, enlisted for service with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in April 1915. After serving with the 3rd Battalion in France and Belgium, he transferred to the 3rd Tunnelling Company, Canadian Engineers. During the German spring offensive of 1918, Hawkin was mortally wounded in a German gas attack in the Zonnebeke area of Belgium.
