This sign recognized some of the best snipers of the Canadian Corps from 1917 to 1918. Snipers were a part of their infantry battalion, which are included after each of their names, but they served apart, usually in teams of two that included a spotter and shooter, and did not partake in usual trench duties. The presence of snipers made even the most mundane trench tasks dangerous.
