The soldiers of the First Contingent slept in these bell tents while training at Valcartier Camp. Some of the new civilian-soldiers complained about the conditions, but it would only get worse. After the Canadians arrived on their future training ground at Salisbury Plain, England, it rained for weeks at a time.
