Ottawa, Ontario, June 6, 2016 — On the 72nd anniversary of D-Day, the Canadian War Museum is pleased to announce a new agreement with the Juno Beach Centre Association that will broaden and encourage opportunities for collaboration between the two organizations.

“We look forward to new opportunities to collaborate with the Juno Beach Centre,” said Mark O’Neill, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of History. “The foundation of this agreement is our shared understanding of how important it is to preserve the memory of the Second World War, a pivotal event that had a profound impact on the lives of so many Canadians.”

The Juno Beach Centre Association is a Canadian non-profit charitable corporation that owns and operates the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy, France. The Centre is both a renowned museum and cultural centre, paying homage to the 45,000 Canadians who lost their lives during the Second World War. In addition to its overseas operations, the Juno Beach Centre Association develops exhibitions and educational programs for students in Canada.

“We are thrilled to embark on this collaboration with the Canadian War Museum,” said Don Cooper, President of the Juno Beach Centre Association. “With paralleled mandates, this new partnership will greatly contribute to the perpetuation of the legacy of Canada’s military history, both at home and abroad.”

With the signing of the new Memorandum of Understanding, the Museum and the Association agree to collaborate on projects that will advance their mutual goal of increasing public awareness of Canadian history.

The agreement, which runs until 2021, paves the way for potential collaboration, including joint fundraising initiatives, the encouragement of interdisciplinary exchanges to support the study of Canadian military history, the sharing of expertise and collections, and the use of social media cross-promotion and joint communications to support both organizations’ initiatives.

The Canadian War Museum is Canada’s national museum of military history. Its mission is to promote public understanding of Canada’s military history in its personal, national, and international dimensions. Work of the Canadian War Museum is made possible in part through financial support of the Government of Canada.
