Ted Barris and Breaking the Silence: Untold Veterans’ Stories from the Great War to Afghanistan

Ottawa, Ontario, January 26, 2010 — Join us at the Canadian War Museum on Sunday, January 31, as we welcome renowned author Ted Barris to discuss his latest work, Breaking the Silence: Untold Veterans’ Stories from the Great War to Afghanistan.

About 25 years ago, Barris began breaking through the silence. He found that, because of his unique interviewing skills, war veterans would talk to him, set the record straight, and put a face to the service and sacrifice of men and women in uniform. In writing 15 other books, Barris has earned the trust of Canada’s veterans. Indeed, over the years, nearly 3,000 veterans have shared their memories with him, all offering original material for his writing.

Ted Barris is an accomplished author, journalist and broadcaster. As well as hosting stints on CBC Radio and regular contributions to The Globe and Mail, the National Post, and various national magazines, he is a full-time professor of journalism at Centennial College in Toronto. Among his 15 previously published non-fiction books are the national bestsellers Victory at Vimy and Juno.
