Join us for a full slate of activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. The War Museum is also celebrating its fifth anniversary in its new home. Cake and refreshments will be served at 2:45 p.m. outside the Barney Danson Theatre!



Guided Tour: Top 5 Architectural Features

11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
In celebration of the War Museum’s fifth anniversary, a special guided tour of five of the Museum’s architectural features will be offered every weekend in May. Free with Museum admission.


Witnesses to History
9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Meet veterans of the Second World War, the Korean War and various peace support missions, and hear their stories. There also will be members of our Volunteer Interpreter Program in the Galleries, sharing their knowledge and personal experience of war. Atelier C


Family Activity: Friendship
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Learn about the origins of the Canadian Tulip Festival — and Canada’s role in sheltering members of the Dutch Royal Family and in liberating the Netherlands in the Second World War. You can also handle a Second World War military kit and make a friendship craft.  There also will be a reading from Anne Renaud’s book, A Bloom of Friendship, which tells the story of the Canadian Tulip Festival (English only).   Museum Lobby


Family Activity: Dazzling Designs
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Create your own camouflage artwork inspired by dazzle painted ships.

Concert: Hear that beat!
1 to 3 p.m.
Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to move to the big band rhythms of Impressions in Jazz Orchestra and the Ottawa Swing Dance Society. You won’t want to sit this one out!LeBreton Gallery


Concert: A Musical Tribute to the Past
3  to 5 p.m.
Join the Karen Oxorn Quintet for a memorable afternoon of songs from the past. Tea, coffee and cake will be served in celebration of the Canadian War Museum’s fifth anniversary just before the concert begins. See you there!Barney Danson Theatre
