Camouflage-themed evening at the Canadian War Museum


Ottawa, Ontario, April 1, 2010 — Join us at the Canadian War Museum on Thursday, April 8, for two special public programs which promise a fun-filled camouflage-themed evening!


First, a free lecture by Roy R. Behrens, Professor of Art at the University of Northern Iowa on artists’ contribution to Dazzle Ship camouflage during the First World War.


Then, at 8 p.m., creative collective Spins and Needles will take over the Museum. DJ Jason Pelletier will provide funky background beats, while crafter/designer Melanie Yugo will oversee participants’ camouflage creations. Participants will have access to the Camouflage exhibition until midnight. (Tickets required: $10 adults, $8 students.)

Lecture: Artists’ Contributions to Dazzle Ship Camouflage
Thursday, April 8 – 7 p.m.

Join us for a fast-paced, richly illustrated look at “dazzle painting,” a way of camouflaging ships by painting them in brightly coloured, abstract geometric shapes. Presented by Roy R. Behrens. In English with simultaneous translation to French. Barney Danson Theatre


Spins and Needles
Thursday, April 8 – 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Celebrate Spins and Needles’ fifth anniversary with a creative night out that mixes camouflage crafts and funky beats. LeBreton Gallery and John McCrae Gallery
$10 adults, $8 students
In association with the special exhibition, Camouflage: From Battlefield to Catwalk.
