Canadian War Museum welcomes World Press Photo 08

Ottawa, Ontario, August 1, 2008 — The Canadian War Museum, in co-operation with Royal Netherlands Embassy in Ottawa, is proud to welcome a display of the winners of World Press Photo’s latest international competition.

“We are always looking for programs that will help visitors better understand military history and its roles in shaping their lives” stated Lisa Leblanc, the Museum’s Manager of Public Programs and Interpretation. “This display of photographs includes many images from recent and ongoing conflicts that help build upon our post-Cold War exhibitions and highlight how these events shape our world.”

World Press Photo was founded in 1955, and is best known for organizing the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press photography competition. The prizewinning photos are selected by an international jury and are assembled into a traveling display that is visited by some 2 million people in 45 countries around the world.

This display will be presented in the Canadian War Museum Lobby from August 1 to 24.
