March Break at the Canadian War Museum

Ottawa, Ontario, Feb.21, 2006 — The Canadian War Museum (CWM) is pleased to present activities geared to families over the upcoming March Break. Covering both the Quebec break and the Ontario break, a number of activities have been planned.

Please note, for March break the CWM will be open on Monday February 27 and Monday March 13. Opening hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Thursdays until 9 p.m. Admission is half price on Sundays, and free Thursday evenings after 4 p.m.

Week 1 – February 25 to March 5 (Quebec break); Week 2 – March 11 to 19 (Ontario break)
 
In-Gallery Activities
Family activities held daily during both weeks, unless otherwise specified. Free with admission to the Museum.

Weeks 1 and 2 – all day
Hands-On Games
A soldier’s pastime? An officer’s strategic training? Or a child’s game? Try some classic card and board games that connect leisure with service, strategy and conflict. LeBreton Gallery

Junior Spies
Build a secret identity and communicate in code. Uncover spies in the galleries and learn their stories. Gallery 4

March Break Movies
Presented daily in the Barney Danson Theatre. All screenings are free.

English version (dubbed): Week 1 – 3 p.m.; Week 2 – 1 p.m.

Original French version: Week 1 – 1 p.m.; Week 2 – 3 p.m.
The Dog Who Stopped the War – (La Guerre des Tuques)
The escalating war between rival groups of children will only be stopped by their pets.

Thursday, March 2 – 7 p.m. (French with English subtitles)
A Very Long Engagement – (Un long dimanche de fiançailles)
A young woman relentlessly searches for her fiancée who disappeared from the trenches during the First World War. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Alien Resurection, Amélie), and starring Audrey Tautou (Amélie).

Rated 18A – adult accompaniment.

Thursday, March 16 – 7 p.m.
The Great Dictator
In his first full-length “talkie”, Charlie Chaplin plays both a persecuted Jewish barber and a dictator intent on conquering the world.
