Special Exhibitions

Afghanistan: A Glimpse of War
This groundbreaking exhibition presents Canada’s participation in the war in Afghanistan. From 9/11 to the evening news, discover personal stories drawn from the chaos of battle and the struggle for peace. This exhibition provides a glimpse of Canada’s involvement in the “war on terror” and in helping to rebuild a country shattered by years of war. An exhibition developed by the Canadian War Museum, featuring the images of Stephen Thorne and Garth Pritchard. Lt-Col John McCrae Gallery

Canada Under Attack: The Battle of the St. Lawrence (1942-1944)
In the middle of the Second World War, a German submarine sinks a Canadian ship. But the attack does not occur in the mid-Atlantic, or along the shores of Europe. It happens here, in the heart of Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence. Over a period of two years, German U-boats will infest the River and the Gulf, sinking more than 20 ships. Witness their impact on Canada’s small East Coast communities. The war is on their doorstep. A travelling exhibition jointly created by the Naval Museum of Quebec and the Musée de la Gaspésie. Lt-Col John McCrae Gallery

About the Canadian War Museum
The Canadian War Museum is the national museum of military history. It attempts to help all Canadians better understand their country’s military history in its personal, national and international dimensions. The Museum emphasizes the human experience of war to explain the impact of organized human conflict on Canada and Canadians, and how, through war, conflict, and peace support operations, Canadians have affected, and have been affected by, the world around them. Special exhibitions and programs also explore non-Canadian and general themes related to the human experience of war and the subject of armed conflict, past and present
