PUBLIC PROGRAMS FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2010

NB – please note that the War Museum will issue a stand-alone PSA for Remembrance Day special programming.

Free admission to the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Civilization on Remembrance Day, Thursday November 11.

Events are free with Museum admission unless otherwise indicated.

Family Activity: Remembrance Tour
November 4 to November 11
This special tour highlights the areas of the Museum that touch on remembrance, including the Memorial Hall, Regeneration Hall and the Royal Canadian Legion Hall of Honour. Tours leave every hour starting at 9:30 a.m. ($3 with Museum admission, except for Remembrance Day)

A National Remembrance Vigil
November 4 to November 10
This is an opportunity to view the names of the 68,000 Canadians who never returned home from the First World War projected in the Canadian War Museum. In partnership with the 1914–1918 Ypres project. Please consult its website www.1914-1918.ca.

Conference: Look to the Future of Remembrance
November 49 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Take a look into the future of remembering the service and sacrifice of Canadians in war and peace. Join us for an exciting half-day with keynote speaker CBC’s Chief Correspondent Peter Mansbridge, and Professor Frank van Vree from Amsterdam, who is an expert on the dynamics of remembrance, Professor Christl Verduyn of Mount Allison University, Pat Varga of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. Dean Oliver, Director of Research and Exhibitions at the Canadian War Museum, as well as local high school students and veterans. Presented in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The conference is free and open to the public; however, space is limited. First come first served. Family Activity: Wreath-making
Daily from November 6 to 1110 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Create a personalized poppy and add it to a wreath along with those made by other Museum visitors.

Family Activity: Season’s Greetings
Daily from November 6 to 11; weekends from November 13—10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Send some cheer to Canadian Forces members who are away from their families this holiday season. Write your own special greeting to Canadian troops serving overseas on large banners and Christmas cards.
