Over The Top

FRANÇAIS

 – “C’mon, lads” laments Sergeant Wilkes, “get to your feet and put on a nice smile.”

The three of you slowly stand and bring your hands up over your heads. Moments later, half a dozen German soldiers climb out of their trench, negotiate their way around the wire entanglements, then strip you of your grenades, rifles, ammunition and even your watches.

– “You are to walk that way!” points one of the Germans with a pistol in his hand.

The three of you zig-zag around the wire and enter the German trenches. Almost immediately, you are surrounded by other Germans who seem surprised and curious by your sudden appearance.

It is only now that you realize there will be no two week pass nor decoration waiting for you. All that awaits is a German prison camp, where you will spend the rest of the war as a captured and defeated enemy.
