King George VI Coronation Medal 1937

1937

The medal was awarded after 12 May 1937 to recognise the coronation of King George VI. The medal was meant to be a personal souvenir of the event and though there was no specific criteria it was awarded to recipients in Great Britain and the Commonwealth for community contribution. The recipients were normally selected at the local level and included state officials, government ministers and officials, Members of Parliament, mayors and municipal officials, members of the military forces, police services and recipient’s spouses. All surviving recipients of the Victoria Cross were also awarded this medal and 10,359 were awarded to Canadians.
