Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medal 1897

1897

The Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medal was authorised by royal warrant in 1897 to commemorate the 60th year of Queen Victoria’s reign and was awarded to select persons who participated in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. This included members of the Royal Household, distinguished foreign guests, and officers in the army and navy. It was also awarded to government ministers and officials who participated in anniversary events attended by the Queen. The medal was awarded in gold to members of the Royal Household and foreign nobility; silver to government officials and military officers; and bronze to non-commissioned troops participating in anniversary parades. There were 37 silver medals and 165 bronze medals awarded to the Canadian military contingent that attended the Diamond Jubilee Parade on 22 June 1897 in London, England.
