Jack Robert Cummings Hay Rowatt was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on 12 March 1893. He was the son of Hugh H. and Frances Cummings Rowatt. His father was a public servant.
Rowatt worked as a structural engineer before joining the military. He enlisted in the Canadian Engineers, Canadian Expeditionary Force, in Calgary, Alberta, on 2 November 1915. At the time, he claimed that he had been born in 1894, rather than 1893. Rowatt was discharged from the Canadian Engineers on 5 February 1916, in Ottawa, and became an officer in the Canadian Army Service Corps.
Little else is known about Rowatt’s life and service, other than that he died of tuberculosis on 10 June 1938, in Saanich, British Columbia. Military authorities, who referred to him as Robert Rowatt, attributed his death to his war service.
Jack Robert Cummings Hay Rowatt is buried in Royal Oak Burial Park, Saanich, British Columbia.
