Albert Arthur Swift was born in Montréal, Quebec, on 22 October 1894. He was the son of John and Mariah Swift.

A farmer like his father, Swift enlisted in the 117th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Eastern Townships) in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on 21 December 1915. He was later transferred to the 24th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Victoria Rifles of Canada).

Swift was killed by shell fire on 10 August 1918, as his battalion sought to consolidate its gains after its successful attack on German positions on the first day of the Battle of Amiens (8 August 1918).

Albert Arthur Swift is buried in Rosières Communal Cemetery Extension, in France.
