Military General Service Medal, 1793–1814
The militia of Upper and Lower Canada made a major contribution to the war effort by transporting supplies, building fortifications, guarding prisoners, and occasionally engaging in combat. Private Joseph Plamondon received this Military General Service Medal for his service at the battle of Crysler’s Farm in November 1813. Only veterans of the War of 1812 who survived until 1847 were eligible to apply for this medal.
