Barry Douglas Ace is Curator of Exhibits at the Indian Art Centre, Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in Hull, Quebec. A photographic artist in his own right, Mr. Ace has shown his work in the solo exhibition Modern Indians Standing Around at the Post (Ottawa, 1998), as well as in a number of group exhibitions.

As a noted teacher and lecturer, Mr. Ace has taught Native Studies at the University of Sudbury and Canadian Studies at both Laurentian University (Sudbury) and Carleton University (Ottawa). He has also created teaching materials for Native studies and has presented workshops and papers on Native issues and art at numerous venues throughout Canada and the United States.

Mr. Ace has four curatorial credits to date: A Celebration: The Art of Canada's First Peoples (Rideau Hall, Ottawa, 1996-1997), Transitions: Contemporary Canadian Indian and Inuit Art (Paris, France, 1996-1997), Perpetual Bundle (Hull, 1996), and inter/SECTION (Hull, 1998), which featured the work of photographic artist Jeffrey M. Thomas, curator of Emergence from the Shadow. Mr. Ace is also an author with three publications to his credit, including the catalogue for the Transitions exhibition. His work has appeared or been noted in a number of trade journals and magazines throughout the world.

Mr. Ace was born on Manitoulin Island in 1958 and is an Anishnabe (Ojibwa) of the West Bay First Nation.
