In 1909, our band was granted the right to homestead. Only one of us, John (Lecaine) Okute filed for a homestead. Finally, in 1911, we were allotted land for a reserve at Wood Mountain. Thirty-five families built homes there. All we owned was personal belongings and our horses. We did not have a treaty, so we had to find ways to support our families.
