Birth of the Navy (1910-1914)
Canada's tiny naval service, created amidst political controversy in 1910, was part of the British Empire's response to Germany's growing sea power. HMCS Niobe and HMCS Rainbow, Canada's first warships, formed the basis of the infant navy.
