Fought across a vast and often dangerous ocean, the Battle of the Atlantic pitted the Royal Canadian Navy and other Allied forces against German U-Boats (submarines) and other Axis forces. Allied convoys sought to transport vital food, supplies, weapons, and personnel across the Atlantic, while the Axis sought to destroy merchant vessels and their escorting warships.
